Booking NEMT for the first time can feel overwhelming. This simple guide walks you through every step of scheduling a medical ride in Miami with AVIVA MedTrans.
Booking Your First Medical Ride Is Easier Than You Think
If you or a family member needs non-emergency medical transportation in Miami or South Florida for the first time, you may not know where to start. This step-by-step guide walks you through the process so you can book with confidence.
Step 1: Determine the Type of Transport You Need
Before booking, identify which type of service fits the patient's needs:
- Ambulatory — can walk or needs minor assistance boarding
- Wheelchair — travels in a wheelchair and cannot transfer to a standard seat
- Stretcher — cannot sit upright and needs to travel lying flat
If you are unsure, contact your doctor's office — they can recommend the appropriate transport type based on the patient's medical condition. You can also read our guide on wheelchair vs. stretcher transport to help decide.
Step 2: Gather the Information You Will Need
When booking, have the following ready:
- Patient's full name and phone number
- Complete pickup address (including apartment or unit number)
- Complete destination address
- Date and time of the appointment (and expected pickup time)
- Whether a return trip is needed (and the approximate return time)
- Any special requirements (oxygen, bariatric needs, stairs at pickup, attendant traveling with patient)
- Insurance information (if using Medicaid or private insurance)
Step 3: Contact AVIVA MedTrans
You can book your ride in three ways:
- Online: Use our booking form at avivamedtrans.com/book-a-ride — available 24/7
- By phone: Call (844) 201-0110 — our team is available around the clock
- By email: Send details to info@avivamedtrans.com
We recommend booking at least 24–48 hours in advance. For recurring needs like dialysis, we can set up a standing schedule so you never need to rebook each trip.
Step 4: Confirm Your Booking
After submitting your request, our team will confirm your ride within 30 minutes during business hours. You will receive confirmation of your driver, vehicle, and estimated arrival time. For same-day bookings, call us directly for the fastest service.
Step 5: Be Ready for Your Driver
On the day of your trip:
- Be ready at least 10–15 minutes before your scheduled pickup
- Have any medical equipment (oxygen tank, medication) ready to go
- Make sure the pickup address is accessible (clear pathway to the door)
- Inform the driver of any specific needs upon arrival
Step 6: Return Trip (If Applicable)
If you booked a round trip, your driver will either wait or return at the arranged time. If your appointment runs significantly late, call us at (844) 201-0110 so we can adjust the schedule.
